Belmont teams are dominating their competition within the Missouri Valley Conference. Here’s the rundown from the last few games to keep you up to date on all things Belmont Athletics.
Men’s Soccer Ties Up with UIC & Evansville
For the past two games at E.S. Rose Park, the Belmont Men’s Soccer team has tied with both opponents.
T, 3-3 vs. UIC on October 1st
In a high scoring game, Belmont tied with the University of Chicago’s Men’s Soccer team. Holding a two-goal lead in the first half, UIC scored three consecutive goals to take the lead 3-2. Belmont tied it up with yet another shot from Case Cox. Case led the team and made three goals on four shots.
T, 0-0 vs. Evansville on October 5th
Led by Nate Logan with four saves, Jansen Wilson (3) and Michael Saunders (2) chipped in five of the the team’s six shots for the game.
Volleyball 3-0 on the Week, Clemons named MVC Player of the Week
After recently entering conference play, the Belmont Volleyball Team made a big statement by defeating conference opponents Murray State, Evansville & Indiana State.
Belmont 3, Murray State 1
(22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20)
For the first time since 2015, the Belmont Volleyball team defeated the Racers in Murray, Kentucky. Led by a balanced attack and disciplined passing, Belmont performed better than Murray in five out of six categories.
Belmont 3, Evansville 2
(25-21, 25-27, 26-24, 24-26, 15,10)
Belmont handed Evansville their first conference loss of the season after going for a 2-0 start Kristen Clemons had 16 kills on a .303 hitting. Lauren Walsh added 15 kills on a .314 hitting percentage.
Holding down the back row, Laura Shoopman and Rachel McBride had over 20 digs a piece. Sydney Willis chipped in six blocks.
Belmont 3, Indiana State 0
(25-20, 25-20, 25-21)
For their first 3-0 sweep of the season, Belmont volleyball silenced Indiana State on their home court in Nashville, TN.
17 Birthday kills for Kristen Clemons led the team from the offense. While behind the serving line, Laura Shoopman, Peyton O’Brien, and Rachel McBride contributed to the team total of eight service aces.
Kristen was named as the MVC Player of the Week!
Women’s Soccer on a roll, Doyle does it again!
Coming off of a week of tough competition, Belmont Women’s Soccer is now 2-1-2 in Missouri Valley Play.
This past week, the team Tied 0-0 with UIC and took down the Illinois State Redbirds 1-0 to improve their conference rankings.
Standout Goalie, #0 Sarah Doyle tallied the seventh shutout of the season against Illinois State. Doyle had six saves to lead the way. She was named as the MVC Goalie for the third time this season.
